A. Classes

  1. Tractors may not exceed class weight. A tractor cannot weigh less than Five Hundred (500) pounds of the posted weight of the class.
  2. A tractor may only be entered once per class.

B. Membership and Fees

  1. In order to pull you must be a member in good standing of the C.S.T.P.A.
  2. A $ 30.00 entry fee is required for each tractor in each class.
  3. A Twenty ($20.00) dollar annual fee is required to be an Active Member, the fee is due at the first pull attended. Only Active Members will be allowed to pull or vote.
  4. To participate in a vote, you must be an active member of the club at least 30 days prior to any vote.

C. Rules for Altered Stock Tractors

  1. An Altered stock tractor is defined as “a farm tractor as it was manufactured with frame, motor with identifying numbers intact, drive-train and rear-end, working governors with no over-rides.”
  2. Tractors must run on fuel as designed from factory with only gas, diesel, or propane being allowed.
  3. Tractors designed with duel fuel systems may compete if access to one fuel tank is disconnected.
  4. Four-wheel drive tractors are allowed as two-wheel drive units only and front drive must be disengaged.
  5. The use of stock transmissions with power shift is legal.
  6. All tractors must have secure hoods, fan shroud, and exhaust manifolds.
  7. Any excessive loss of water, fuel or any liquid will be cause for disqualification.
  8. If judged illegal, protested tractor and driver will be disqualified and receive no points for that class. A second offense will mean disqualification for the rest of the year.
  9. An Altered Stock Tractor may use cut tires, must have a working governor, if engine RPM is over factory setting you must run a steel flywheel S.F.I appoved , and tires are limited to a maximum tire size of 20.8. Both cast or tin wheels and hubs are allowed.
  10. Contest open to farm tractors with stock engine, meaning the engine which came in the tractor at the time of manufacture or a replacement available at the time of manufacture with no frame modifications.
  11. Turbos are allowed on all tractors and are limited to 3×3 Turbo, no twin turbos are allowed.
  12. Altered Stock Tractors cannot run in the Super Stock Class.
  13. Altered Stock tractors must have a kill switch on gasoline tractors, or an intake shut off for diesel tractors for engine shut down, that is compatible with the transfer sled.
  14. All diesel tractors can run up to a P7100 injection pump.
  15. All tractors in the open mile per hour classes must have a “T” bar or roll cage, a seat belt, a D.O.T. Certified Helmet and a shut off. (“T” bar or roll cage must be able to support the weight of the tractor)
  16. Altered Stock Tractors may have a fabricated front end from the bell housing forward must be stock length and stock appearing with no suspension.
  17. Altered Stock tractors may have front skis.
  18. Altered Stock Tractors may use water injection only.
  19. Altered Stock Tractors cannot run injectables.

D. Rules for Super Stock Tractors

  1. Super Stock Tractors must be made from a commercially manufactured farm tractor with matching rear end, transmission, and bell housing. The engine must be from the same manufacturer and bolt in without any bell housing modification. Tin work must be from the same manufacturer as the rear end but does not have to be from the same year.
  2. Super Stock Tractors may have a composite frame from the bell housing forward.
  3. Super Stock Tractors may run on either gasoline, diesel fuel or alcohol.
  4. A water – injection system allowed on a Super Stock Tractor.
  5. Super Stock Tractors may have custom manifolds and intakes.
  6. Super Stock Tractors must run an all steel flywheel made to S F I specifications.
  7. A maximum tire size of 30.5 inches will be allowed. Cut tires are permitted.
  8. ALL Super Stock Tractors MUST have a kill switch on gas tractors, or an intake shut off and fuel dump for diesel tractors for engine shut down and it must be compatible with the sled.
  9. Super Stock Tractors may have one single turbo. If the tractor did not originally have a turbe one may be added.
  10. All Super Stock Tractors must have mandatory engine side shields made of 3/16″ aluminum or 1/8″ steel and said shields must be removed upon request for tractor inspection.
  11. All Super Stock Tractors must use an electric radiator fan.
  12. All Super Stock Tractors must have fenders that protect the drivers arms/hands from coming in contact with the tires when pulling.
  13. Tractors set up for the Super Stock Class may not run in the Altered Stock Class.
  14. Super Stock Tractors may remove factory components to make a weight class.
  15. All Super Stock Tractors must have a clutch/transmission scatter shield or blanket installed.
  16. Super Stock Tractors may use a custom built front end.
  17. Drivers of Super Stock Tractors must wear a fire suit and a D.O.T. approved helmet with a full face shield. If the tractor uses alcohol as the fuel, the driver must also wear fire resistant gloves, hat, socks and face mask.
  18. All Super Stock Tractors must have a roll cage capable of supporting the full weight of the tractor with the bars close enough so that the driver’s helmet cannot pass through the cage and a five (5) point safety harness.
  19. Throttles on all Super Stock Tractors must work in a forward direction and be equipped with a spring return to idle.
  20. 5.9 L. diesel engines are allowed in this class.
  21. All Super Stock tractors must have a fire extinguisher within the drivers reach.
  22. Super Stock tractors cannot have the fuel tank located in the drivers seating area.

E. Rules for Small Block Modified Tractors

  1. All Modified Tractors MUST have a roll cage capable of supporting the full weight of he tractor with the bars close enough so that the driver’s helmet cannot pass through the cage. The minimum tubing for the roll cage is 0.120 wall thickness.
  2. All Modified tractors must have a five (5) point driver safety harness.
  3. May have only one automotive type engine.
  4. Overall length, from center of rear axle to foremost point including any weights, must NOT exceed 12 feet.
  5. Fans must be shrouded and have containment shields or loops.
  6. Drive shaft is to be shielded and have containment shields or loops.
  7. Automatic transmissions must be shielded with approved scatter shields.
  8. All engines must be shielded from bottom of head to bottom of crank throw.
  9. Tractors must have a kill switch compatible with sled hook up, which will shut down the engine when activated.
  10. Tractors must have fenders, which prevent the driver’s elbows from contacting the tires.
  11. All throttles must be hand operated and work in a forward direction and be equipped with a spring return to idle.
  12. Must have an OEM block with OEM numbers (OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer.
  13. Single blowers or twin turbo may be run on “small block” engines and must have approved safety straps and belt shields.
  14. Gas, diesel, alcohol, and oxygenated fuels are allowed. No nitrous.
  15. Aluminum heads and intakes, fuel injection or 4-barrel carburetors and headers are allowed.
  16. All pullers must wear a fire suit and D.O.T. approved helmet with a full face shield. If the tractor uses alcohol as the fuel, the driver must also wear fire resistant gloves, hat, socks and face mask.
  17. Any excessive loss of any liquid from the tractor will be cause for disqualification. The only exceptions will be loss due to internal damage.
  18. Tractors must be equipped with a neutral or park safety switch.
  19. Maximum rear tire width is not to exceed 18.4 inches.
  20. Automatic transmission shields/blankets must be up to date.
  21. No Big Block engines are allowed to compete in this class.
  22. All tractors must have secondary tie bar supports from the rear end housing to the frams.
  23. Modified tractors cannot have the fuel tank located in the driver’s seating area.

F. Rules for 6,500 and 7,000 lb. Modified Tractors

  1. All Modified Tractors MUST have a roll cage capable of supporting the full weight of the tractor with the bars close enough so that the driver’s helmet cannot pass through the cage. The minimum tubing for the roll cage is 0.120 wall thickness.
  2. All Modified tractors must have a five (5) point driver safety harness.
  3. A single “big block” automotive engine, duel “small block” automotive engines built to the small block rules, or a single “small block” automotive engine with unlimited cubic inch displacement, or a naturally aspirated engine may compete in this class.
  4. Both naturally aspirated tractors and blower tractors will run in the same class, however an aspirated tractor will only compete against an aspirated tractor and the same for blower tractors.
  5. You can run twin naturally aspirated big blocks with no more than 1,100 cubic inch total.
  6. Overall length, from center of rear axle to foremost point including any weights, must not exceed 14 feet.
  7. Fans must be shrouded and have containment shields or loops.
  8. Drive shaft is to be shielded and have containment shields or loops.
  9. Automatic transmissions must be shielded with approved scatter shields.
  10. All engines must be shielded from bottom of head to bottom of crank throw.
  11. Tractors must have a kill switch compatible with sled hook up, which will shut down the engine when activated.
  12. Tractors must have fenders, which prevent the driver’s elbows from contacting the tires.
  13. All throttles must be hand operated and work in a forward direction and be equipped with a spring return to idle.
  14. For “big block” engines a turbo or blower is allowed but limited to an 871 blower, no hi-helix blower case or rotors. Pro stock heads are allowed.
  15. Only gas, diesel, or alcohol fuels allowed. No nitrous or oxygen carrying fuels allowed.
  16. All pullers must wear a fire suit and D.O.T. approved helmet with a full face shield. If the tractor uses alcohol as the fuel, the driver must also wear fire resistant gloves, hat, socks and face mask.
  17. Any excessive loss of any liquid from the tractor will be cause for disqualification. The only exceptions will be loss due to internal damage.
  18. Tractors must be equipped with a neutral or park safety switch.
  19. Automatic transmission shields/blankets must be up to date.
  20. All tractors must have secondary tie bar supports from the rear end to the frame.
  21. Modified tractors cannot have the fuel tank located in the driver’s seating area.
  22. All blowers must have approved safety straps and shields.

G. Scales

  1. All tractors must be weighed on an officially designed C.S.T.P.A. approved scale.
  2. All tractors must weigh in prior to pulling, regardless of being late.
  3. After weighing in, tractors are to go to a designated holding area. This area is to be free of any excess weight.
  4. After weighing in, you may not add air into your tires or remove air from front tires, or add weight to your tractor.
  5. The first two placing tractors in every class must weigh out if the scale is available.
  6. Modified tractors which weigh-in with full fuel tanks may continue to run with full tanks if checked and noted by an official at the time of the weigh in.
  7. Only Club Members are allowed to use the scale during a pull.

H. Hitching Points All Tractors

  1. All tractors must have hitching points located behind rear-end housing, and of sufficient strength as indicated by judge. Hitch must be flat, stationary and rigid in all directions. The hitching point must be assessable for hooking by a person standing on the transfer sled and the hook must be inserted from the top.
  2. You must have a solid, bolted clevis or welded ring. A twisted clevis is not allowed.
  3. Maximum height of hitching point shall not exceed 20 inches.
  4. All hitches must have a minimum inside diameter of 3 x 3 3/4 inches, not to exceed a maximum of 3½ inches and be made of material with a minimum cross section of 3/4 (0.75) inches.
  5. All hitching points will be measured at the scales and may not be altered anytime thereafter. To do so will result in disqualification.
  6. All pulls must start from a tight hitch; any jerking hitch will result in disqualification.

I. Safety Bars and Brakes

  1. All tractors must be equipped with working brakes.
  2. All tractors must be equipped with wheelie bars.
  3. Wheelie bars must be made of 3 inch channel iron or its equivalent at a minimum and must be able to support the weight of the tractor when tested by a judge.
  4. Bars must be rigid and stationary and equipped with stationary (25 sq. inch) safety pads on the ends.
  5. Safety bars MUST extend from the middle of the rear axel and extend past the rear most part of the rear tires at least one (1) inch and be no more than ten (10) inches from the highest point of the pad to the ground. The one (1) inch past the rear tire will be measured on a line parallel to the ground that passes through the center of the rear axel.
  6. Three point hitch arms may be used if bolted stationary and the above criteria are met.
  7. No warning, verbal or written, will be issued for safety items and the tractor will be disqualified.

J. Tires

  1. All tractors must be equipped with rubber tires or tires designed for pulling.
  2. Maximum tire width is 30.5 inches. (18.4 for Strictly Stock and Modified 4,300 and 4,800 lb classes).
  3. Tire chains are not allowed
  4. Duel rear wheels are not allowed
  5. You may not remove a wheel or tire to enter a weight class.

K. Qualifications for Transfer Sled Rules and the Pit Area

  1. The distance for a full pull will be the longest safe distance on the track up to 300 feet. The Executive Board may elect to use a full floating finish line in round two (2) if it is necessary in order to complete a pull on time.
  2. The length of the pit will be extended 25 feet longer than the maximum distance to achieve a pull.
  3. The distance for a full pull will be the longest safe distance on the track.
  4. There will be a test tractor only in the first round of each class. This tractor will be picked from the 1st. or 2nd. starting positions and may keep his/her test distance or go to the 3rd. or the last pulling position and pull again.
  5. If a tractor looses a weight during his/her pull while hooked to the sled in any round or at any distance, they will be disqualified.
  6. One or more fire extinguishers must be present in the pulling area during all events.

L. Preparing to Pull

  1. All Drivers MUST sign up to work a class by their second pull of the year or they will not be allowed to pull with the club until after they have worked a class.
  2. Participants must work during an event or he/she will not be permitted to pull. If there are not enough volunteers to work a pull other means may be enforced.
  3. The tractor must be operated in a safe manner at all times or disqualification may be a result.
  4. The driver must remain seated at all times while pulling or operating his/her tractor in the pit area.
  5. A driver MUST be in the seat of a tractor any time that it is started. A driver may get off of the seat of a tractor as long as the tractor is not in motion.
  6. Anyone who does not remain seated while pulling will automatically be disqualified and will get 3 show points for that class.
  7. All tractors should park at a reasonable distance from the pulling area so that the tractor that is pulling will have enough room to move around.
  8. All tractors must be backed in as squarely as possible to the sled, must be in neutral or park, the drivers foot must be off the clutch, the breaks must be applied and place one hand in the air as a signal while being hooked and unhooked from the sled.
  9. A contestant who missed his/her turn will go to the last position and at the beginning of the next round he/she can assume their original position.
  10. Weights cannot extend more than 3 feet from the front of the tractor and cannot extend over the top of the rear tires while partaking in a pull.
  11. If the sled is moved less than 15 feet, it is the option for the next driver to have the loader move the sled out whatever distance it takes to reposition it at the start line, in any round.

    11a.   If a contestant fails to pull the sled at least Fifty (50) feet for MPH tractors and one-hundred (100) feet for altered stock, super stock, and modified tractors they will then have the option to have the sled returned to the original starting position and continue to pull, the track will not be groomed. This will be permitted only once per hook and only in the first round.
  12. All drivers and their crews must wear shirts and shoes.
  13. Minors ages 13 and up may compete in Altered Stock MPH classes ONLY. To participate in Super Stock or Modified class a person MUST be 16 years of age or older.
  14. All minors must comply with the rules and regulations set forth by the State of Connecticut and the Federal Government and must have written parental permission (waiver form at time of registration) and remain with the tractor on the premises.
  15. CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL OR ILLEGAL DRUGS IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Any driver or helper found violating this rule while participating at an event will be disqualified.
  16. ALL pullers must sign up before the pull begins or if you are running late you MUST contact an officer. Exceptions may be made in extreme circumstances.
  17. A pull is over when the judge declares the pull is over.
  18. Anyone, including the test tractor, landing on or over the boundary line is automatically disqualified and the winning order is moved up accordingly.
  19. All tractors must be in neutral or park, the drivers foot must be off the clutch, the breaks must be applied, while being hooked/unhooked from the sled.
  20. All Judges will wear a safety vest, provided by the cub, while working in the pulling pit.
  21. Only tractors that are in the class that is pulling are to be in the pulling ring.
  22. While a tractor is pulling the driver must have one hand on the steering wheel.

M. The Executive Committee

  1. Anyone disputing a decision of the judge will have the option of appealing said decision to the Officers of the club, by filing a protest by the end of the class.
  2. The Judges authority is limited to the operation of tractors on the track and not as to the operation of the sled.
  3. The judge, along with the Officers, shall have the authority to stop and disqualify any tractor they feel is not being operated in a safe manner.
  4. Only a judge or a member of the Executive Committee can issue a warning and record it with the Secretary.
  5. Violations of any of the above said rules and regulations may be grounds for disqualification.
  6. A judge is one who has track responsibility/authority of the class; i.e. starting line and finish line judges only.
  7. At time of pull, THE DECISION OF THE JUDGE IS FINAL.
  8. If any Executive Board Member, including judges, are subject to foul language, obscenities or verbal abuse, that person will be disqualified from pulling in that event class.
  9. If there is a questionable call on a contestant’s pull ONLY the starting and finishing line judges, upon discussion, will render a fair and just decision.
  10. Any member may protest and hold up class positions until the next meeting if rules are not clear.
  11. There is a $1,500.00 tear-down rule. If the competitor is deemed legal for the class that they are pulling in they keep $1,250.00 and the club gets $250.00. If not deemed legal the person who put up the money gets his/her money back.

N. Points System

  1. All tractors pull for distance.
  2. First Place

  3. Disqualification results in no distance being awarded.
  4. In order to be eligible for a year end championship award you must have competed in at least four (4) C.S.T.A. events in such year.
